When a space tells a story...

Many of you know that writing Wolfwalker (book 3 of The Way of the Spirit) has been a difficult journey these past couple years; I unexpectedly lost my job, then my 4th child was born, then I chose to start a business to pay the bills instead of getting a “real job”, then our home underwent a significant renovation — it’s been a lot. And almost all of it has been very, very good.

One of the brightest spots has been putting together my home office. As I was trying to figure out how to put the books on the shelves, it occurred to me that I was telling a story — the story of a lifetime of loving and telling stories.

Beginning with Where is the Bear? and moving on to Kipling’s Just So Stories, and my first VHS copies of Star Wars, then 1984 and Animal Farm, then The Scarlet Letter, which I made into a 20minute film in high school with the Canon XL1 on top of the shelf, and Lord of the Rings, Paradise Lost, Treasure Island, Deep Space Nine, G.K. Chesterton, and more than a hundred Star Wars books!

That mass of binders and notecards at the bottom, those are all stories. Some finished, many unfinished. Some are screenplay adaptations of the books on the shelves above them. I hope to share all of them with you someday…

And those pink boards on the wall, soon those will be covered with notecards for Wolfwalker.

Do you have a space in your home that tells a story? If you don’t, you should make one.
